Undergraduate CE Curriculum Changes for 10/11 Catalog
Effective Fall 2010, the following changes will be made to the CE curriculum:

  1. Either EE2950 or ME3333 will be required, instead of both courses
  2. CE3200 will be combined with EVEG3100 into one new course EVEG3200
  3. CE4200 will be a required course instead of an elective.

Students may choose to switch to the new catalog next year to take advantage of the changes in that:

  • If a student has taken either EE2950 or ME3333, he/she may wait until Fall 2010 to take advantage of the waiver of the other course
  • If a student has taken CE3200 only, he/she may wait until Fall 2010 to take CE4200 instead of EVEG3100.  In such case, CE3200 will transfer as EVEG3200 in the new catalog

RECOMMENDED PATH & CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS
The RECOMMENDED PATH shows how one may complete the curriculum for a degree program in 4 years.  CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS may be recommended in one semester but must be met by the end of the required semester for one to be considered “on track” and making progress in the degree. Summer school is strongly recommended when a student needs to "catch up" with the curriculum.

Advising and Senior Checkout Procedures for CE and EVEG Students
Attention!
Advising and senior checkout for Spring 2008 must be completed by October 15, 2007.

In order to improve the student advisement process, the civil and environmental engineering department has launched a new online system to keep CE and EVEG students on track and ensure timely completion of their degree program.  The online system also facilitates communication between the students and their faculty advisors.  All students eligible for advising are required to carefully follow the instructions below before scheduling an appointment with their faculty advisor.

1. Visit http://www.cee.lsu.edu and click on the "courses" tab in the top link bar.  Sign in to the website by clicking on the "sign in" link located at the top right corner of this page.  Your username is your full lsu email address (e.g. username@lsu.edu) and your password is your LSU paws account password.  If your login is successful, you should see your name on the top right corner.  If you are having difficulty logging in, pls. notify us at ug@cee.lsu.edu

2. Once you log on to the site, click on My Faculty Advisor to identify the faculty advisor you have been assigned to, as well as his/her advising hours.  Then, click on Advising Record for CE Students or Advising Record for EVEG Students  to retrieve your current record.  If this is the first time you use this system, you will need to update the status of all courses in the curriculum of your major.  To do so, click on "Edit Item" and fill out the online form.  For each course listed in your record, pls. select the course status as one of the following options (you may refer to your degree audit for verification as needed):

Completed: course (or an approved equivalent) was completed successfully with minimum grade requirements.
Incomplete: course has not been taken or was not successfully completed
In-Progress: course you are currently enrolled in.
Planned: course you plan to take the upcoming semester  - refer to the class schedule published on the CEE website under "courses" in the top link bar or at the link below:
http://www.cee.lsu.edu/courses/Lists/Semester_Course_Offering/UpcomingUndergrad.aspx

3. For electives, first specify or select the course number from the dropdown menu, then indicate in the following field the status of that course as shown in step 2.

4. For questions or comments to your faculty advisor and/or to the undergraduate programs office, pls. type them in the notes box at the bottom of your record page.

5. Students planning to graduate next semester are required to complete the senior checkout process only through the undergraduate programs office.  Regular advising is NOT required!  To complete the senior checkout process, an appointment with the undergraduate programs coordinator is required.  To schedule an appointment, select at least two options from the appointment times available in the order of preference.  Appointments will be made on a first come first served basis and email notifications will be sent shortly.

6. When finished, click "OK" to submit the form.  You can always go back and edit your record later on before meeting with your faculty advisor.  For future semesters, you will only need to update your record based on changes made since last semester.   Access to this academic record is restricted to the student and the faculty advisor only.

7. Bring a printout of the completed form to your assigned faculty advisor in order to complete the preregistration process and have your flag lifted.    If you made changes to course registration plan during the advising session, pls. remember to update your online record accordingly.  This will help the undergraduate programs office make better course offering plans for upcoming semesters.

Thank you for your cooperation!

2008 DSITE Scholarship

It is that time again for the DSITE Scholarship Program to begin.  As you know, each year we solicit applications (copy attached) primarily from Junior, Senior, or Graduate level students and preferably the ITE Student Chapter at your institutions.  Please return these to the Deep South Scholarship Committee by December 1st, so that we can evaluate the individuals and award the grants at the winter meeting in January-February 2008.

Please advise your students there are at least 4 grants available.  All applicants will be added to the DSITE mailing list and given free student registration at any meeting.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Susan P. Treadway
